THE BEGININGS

We got reached out with a clear mission: Help bring the new World of Warcraft update Event teaser to life. The concept, At Your Doorstep, sets the stage for the coming storm: the arrival of the Void. Our job was to make that darkness feel alive. We handled the compositing, the VFX, and all the CG work around the Void Storm. From the first frame to the final dissolve, our focus was to make every moment of that the void feels and look heavy, cinematic, and threatening.

Blizzard Entertainment is one of the most respected names in gaming. Known for franchises like World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo, the studio has shaped online worlds and player communities for more than three decades. Their storytelling, artistry, and attention to detail have set a benchmark for what immersive game worlds can be.

Introducing Darkness

Blizzard provided us with gameplay plates captured from different in game locations.

One of our task was to bring the Void to life on top of these scenes, creating the creeping shadow, the distortion and the atmosphere that define this update.

We designed and integrated a full set of Void effects such as swirling energy, mist, tendrils and light interaction that gradually overtook the frame. Each shot required careful compositing to blend with Blizzard’s game visuals while keeping the movement natural and immersive.

The result was a seamless mix of gameplay and visual effects that made the teaser feel both familiar and unsettling . The world players know, slowly taken over by something new.

Void iteration

The core focus of the teaser was the arrival of the Void in the new major World of Warcraft update. As the central element of the campaign, the Void needed to feel both powerful and mysterious, so the team explored, tested and refined its look from every angle. The teaser blends two visual worlds: stylised in game footage and a newly redefined direction created for this update. Multiple variations were developed and compared until the final version captured the atmosphere and tone Blizzard envisioned.
